Why I’m a writer not a youtuber.
When I first started blogging I used to do a video once a week on Youtube. A lot of readers still ask me in their emails why I don’t do more videos?
I have always thought of myself more as a writer ( I use the term loosely ) than a youtuber and I enjoy being able to sit down and flesh out an article and then come back to post it at any time. A lot of the time when I blog about something that is important to me it takes a few drafts before I am ready to publish it. There is something about writing to me that feels permanent and timeless.
Sure words like bubblebutt, jockstrap and power bottom get frequent use but I also try to write in a meaningful way. It’s a craft that I think still has value when people want to say something important.
Videos are good for short, funny or interesting little segments and to be honest I have never felt very good at that. I guess they would inject some personality in to the blog, I certainly had a much more vocal following when I did. Most of my videos tended to be responses to questions from readers or reactions to things that had happened to me during the week.
The most common comment I get from people is that they like being able to hear my voice. I’ll admit the accent is sexy.
I’ve always had a keen interest in photography and writing just seems like a better fit with that. I suppose there’s no reason why I can’t do both but I hate the frivolous rubbish that’s popping up on sites in place of more interesting and meaningful content. Some Youtubers are all fast food, loads of energy and no nutrition.
I often struggle with the ridiculousness of what I have created here.
Somewhere in the world people are being lead in to a mass grave and I’m here making posts about my new tightie whities. But then I get an email from a reader who was bullied or suicidal, who then found my blog and started reading and I keep going just a little bit more.
I have a few ideas for videos now which I think I will give a go. I’d love to hear from you if you have suggestions or questions you’d like to send me.
xoxo

“it takes a few gdrafts” is that like a g-string of words? π
I would much rather read a well written article & see some relevant quality photographs, than watch a video. I think you nailed it when you used the word craft. And yes, there are lots of atrocities going on in the world, but we also need balance π
