I made the decision a few weeks ago to start eating less meat. All those videos my friends have been posting of little animals being ground up in to hamburgers finally got the better of me.
Since then I have limited my self to a few portions of fish each week and no other meat. I’m also still eating eggs, milk and cheese. I’ve added protein shakes and a LOT of tofu to the menu. I’ve been eating out a lot and it helps that I get fully catered breakfast and lunch at work so the change has been reasonably easy to make. I need to learn some new recipies though so that I can cook more interesting meals at home.
In the few weeks since making the change I have noticed some things happening to my body and how I feel already.
- Increased sex drive
- better sleeps
- fewer stomach aches
- less bloating
- I’m leaner and more toned
- I feel more alert
- My mood has improved
Now I’m not a nutritionist so I can’t say if all of this is directly related to eating less red and white meat but I definitely feel better. SO far I haven’t really felt any downside. I’m hungry a lot more but I think thats just my body adjusting, as I learn what foods I need to eat more of I’m sure it will change. My main concern is making sure that I get enough protein and don’t lose too much weight so I’ll let you know how that goes.
Mostly the change has been about educating myself and relearning my diet. I’ve added a mens multi vitamin but I hope that I won’t need it. Now that I have managed three weeks the decision has also become self sustaining. I get tempted to eat meat and then I don’t want to break my streak and I turn to the veggie option.
I’m happy with the choice so far and I’m looking forward to sharing more with you. Don’t worry my preachy Vegan friends annoy the fuck out of me so I won’t be preaching at you either but I’ll be sharing the benefits and challenges of this change with you.
