What a fucked up start to 2020, the bushfires and how you can help.

I couldn’t start my posts for 2020 without speaking about the bush fires here, and how terrible they have been.

This bushfire season has been devastating so far and we are not even half way through summer yet. Most of the coverage and donations have been targeted at organisations in New South Wales, but the fires here in my own state of Victoria have been equally as devastating. With all the media attention on NSW there are many charities in VIC including the CFA ( Country Fire Service) That still need your help.

If you would like to make a donation to one of these amazing organisations then please click on the links below.

The CFA (Country Fire Authority) is a volunteer and community based fire and emergency services organisation. It helps protect 3.3 million Victorians, and more than one million homes and properties across the state. Their site allows you to target your donations at supporting volunteers or to families within effected communities.

Or if you’d like to support an organisation which is caring for some of the animals injured by the fires then you can make a donation to Wildlife Victoria by clicking here

For those of you who have contacted me by social media to ask about my safety thank you. I am a city boy now and far from the fires, but there are many other people who have lost their homes and lives. In previous years the fires have gotten close to my Grandparents, and I remember being able to see the fires cresting the hill where I grew up from my bedroom windows. It’s a terrifying thing to watch.

Amongst all the posts flying around there has also been quite a lot of misinformation to sift through. I urge you to be selective and hold a critical eye when you read about there fires online. Click here for a great myth busting article about the current bushfires so far…

As for my own start to 2020, NYE was awesome, probably the best so far. Mates of mine were in town from London and we all met at mine before heading out for an awesome dinner and then to POOF DOOF. I don’t normally like ending up at a club for NYE. I much prefer to have a quite night and then head out to a day party for new years day. Tale as old as time though, it’s the nights out you don’t plan that turn in to the most fun. Loads of good music, good company, and a bunch of those sugary Smirnoff double blacks that I used to party with in my Gay childhood and we were sweating away on the dance floor shirtless.

Thanks everyone for your support in 2019 and here’s to 2020.

More Splash down the river.

Temperature hit the almost forties again on Monday and so it was a good day to get out of the city again and go and explore some more swimming holes. The first one was packed with other people looking to escape the heat so we decided to head another twenty minutes further down the river. The spot we found was empty and we had it to ourselves almost all day. The current here has carved out a wide deep pool where the water swirls round in a large circular current. It was the perfect spot to picnic and swim the afternoon away.

I’m still sworn to secrecy about where these spots are. There’s always the danger when sharing these hidden gems that the next time you go back they will be swarmed with kids and backpackers so don’t ask me where they are because I’m not gonna tell you.
