Summer so far has been a banger and we are not even half way through yet. Lots of time at the pool, in the gym and exploring some new swimming holes with new mates has reminded me why I love Melbourne in the summer so much. I guess I’m kind of feeling a little bit like a kid again. I’m a December baby so I guess this time of year has always been a little bit romantic for me. A hot Christmas followed by a summer time birthday, followed by new years with weeks of school holidays still ahead always meant that this was the best time of the year.
Now that Im a bit older it’s more about survival. Smashing through work before all the offices close, surviving the Christmas rush and the slew of family events that come with it, staying drunk through to my birthday, having a brief sleep in, and then rocking out a massive New Years Eve before getting a cold and spending five days in bed… awesome.
It’s been a much more social summertime as well. New friends and old friends all coalescing into a social circle that I haven’t had for quite a while. Most of my friends over the last five years have been work friends or friends of work friends. As I moved between hemispheres I met some great people but there is a kind of yearning you get for those deeper connections you can only get from those who know you better than anyone else.
I’m looking forward to what the rest of summer 2020 brings.
