Reader Question. How do you deal with a flakey date?

Dear Aussie Space Time Traveller,

I recently went out with a guy 4 times and on our last date we had sex. Since then he hasn’t really talked to me. We didn’t talk much through text in-between our dates, but now it seems that he has mostly disappeared. I’ve texted him 2 or 3 times and have received flakey responses. I don’t want to message him too much and scare him off if he’s actually interested (I know he’s generally busy). I thought we were hitting it off but I guess not. Has this ever happened to you? If so, how do you deal with it? I just started a low carb diet so my mood has been all over the place (mostly a mix of angry, hangry, sad, and anxious). I feel more upset about it than I think I should be.

Hi Shannon, twas me who asked this question! Thank you so much for your response. I texted him directly and asked if he wanted to go out again and he gave me a lukewarm excuse as to why he was no longer interested. I’m actually glad things didn’t work because he made me realize that I still have a lot of work to do on myself before I’m ready-ish to date anyone. It was also a good introduction in “not letting a guy you’re interested in cloud your common sense”. I will definitely be on the look out in the future to make sure I’m not compromising red flags just because someone is finally showing an interest in me.

As for the diet, I really want to lose weight. I’ve cut all snacks (except plain yogurt with fruit and fruit smoothies), junk foods, and eating out. I’ve been running everyday and started doing yoga on the weekends. I’m also looking into joining a gym. I’m 6’3 and 205lbs 🙁 I’d like to get down to 175 or 170lbs then start building some muscle. I want to look good at the beach this summer and look good naked without feeling self-conscious about it when I’m hooking up with a guy. Cutting carbs has been so hard, they’re in everything and I’ve had very low energy in the past few weeks. I miss bread and rice so much, but I’ve read that it can help with weight loss. But it’s probably not good for me since I find that I’m almost always hungry. My stomach thanks you for allowing it bread again!
