For the Mardi Gras Fair Day this Sunday, Google has teamed up with Twenty10 to show that love is stronger than hate – by creating Australia’s biggest musical collaboration.
We’re asking Aussies to contribute lyrics over the next few days, and at Fair Day itself. To date we’ve received contributions from noted celebrity supporters of the community such as Guy Sebastian, Magda Szubanski and Megan Washington. One of Australia’s best songwriters, Toby Martin (formerly of Youth Group) will be at Fair Day to create a song based on these contributions, which Toby will perform on the main stage at 5:30pm. The song will be created live in a Google Doc, with the songwriting process being shown live on a screen at the Google stand.
We’d love your help- you can do this by submitting a lyric here. Google will donate $10 for every lyric submitted to Twenty10, up to a total of $10,000. This initiative was started by Google’s LGBT employee group (the ‘Gayglers’).
Twenty10 Executive Director Brett Paradise said: “Our community has always found solace and celebration in song. There’s no better way for us to express our support for young LGBTIQ Aussies. There is something incredibly uplifting in seeing our community get behind something and show that when we collaborate we can create something special.”
