Dealing with depression. You can’t use the past to fill a hole in the present.

Sometimes the past can hold us back when we use it to fill the holes in our lives that we feel in the present. We do it everyday. We think about the good times or previous achievements, but when we try to relive them over and over or we use those feelings to cover up a sense of lacking in our lives they can have a paralysing effect.

When I was in some of my deepest depression I was unable to move forward because my focus on the past became to intense that I couldn’t see any way that my future could be better. I was so desperate to feel better about myself that sitting in my room reliving the good times became all I could think about.

Thinking about past successes won’t bring you success today.

Thinking about your youth won’t make you anymore youthful than you are today.

It’s important to be connected to the events that have brought us to where we are but we can’t let them stop us from looking forward to newer and better things.

As I sit here soon to head of on another adventure I am reminded about just how much my life has changed since I started looking forward to new adventures rather than dragging all my baggage around with me. The sailing trip and my move overseas all manifested when I made the conscious decision to stop fretting over my past and start working toward my future.

It’s sounds like a cliche but the thing with common sense is that it’s often right and we just need a prod to get us back on the right path.

Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.

What’s done is done, I’ve had some great adventures but now it’s time to make some even greater ones, I’ve had my share of fuck ups too and now it’s time to learn from them. I’ll never be this young again and I’ll only ever have even more potential.

Forwards to happiness and abundance my friends!
