4 weeks on the Goldcoast have flown by already and I finally have a proper day off. I have been living the dream but it’s been hard work and I am exhausted. Only another 14 weeks to go on this project and then I’m off to the UK again.
So far the Goldcoast has been a lot of fun. Although I have been working a lot I’m settling in nicely, it has certainly helped my mood being surrounded by Goldcoast tradies all day. You really have to see it to believe it, the amount of talent up here is unbelievable. I’m looking forward to being able to enjoy some of it lol
I have managed to arrange a car through work and I am looking forward to getting out and exploring a bit of the coast over the next few weekends. There are lots of national parks, theme parks and beaches to explore. Wet and wild looks particularly fun with lots of water slides and other ride to try out.
The weather here has been wild. I’m too far south to be affected by the cyclones but I have been struggling with the heat and the humidity. I was spoiled back home with cooling in the house but up here I have none, I have literally stopped wearing underwear at all and barely leave the house in a more than one layer of very thin cotton.
I had to buy a cooler for my room just so that I could get some proper sleep. Even at work people here dress for the heat. I arrived looking smart in a shirt and shorts and by lunchtime I looked like a contestant in a wet t-shirt contest. After that it’s been loose shorts and tank tops for me everyday.
Work is a huge amount of fun at the moment. Everyday is different; I’ve been up in cherry pickers photographing construction sites, crawling through boat hulls being built and working alongside some really awesome people.
